By Houston at 01/16/2008 - 4:17pm | Materials | Supplies, suppliers, and for sale or trade Daniell Mableton blacksmith shop mentioned in The Art of BlacksmithingI'm reading The Art of Blacksmithing and what do I see toward the end of chapter 4? Last paragraph, page 113 talks about "odd jobs to maintain a living income" and sharpening saws. Top of page 114 Bealer tells of "a blacksmith shop in Mableton, Georgia, operated by the Daniell brothers, which had a most ingenious setting macine designed and made in the shop fir the use of the Daniells." How cool is that? {BIG GRIN!} iron from IndiaIf anyone that took a piece of the iron from india I brought, and tried it, post how you liked it. Also any other comments. I'm trying to get in imported at about $3.00 per pound, in half and one inch round and square stock. Post any comments about that you may have also. 2 comments | read more
By rmrblacksmith at 11/21/2006 - 10:58pm | Materials | Supplies, suppliers, and for sale or trade Is there a good source for tying brooms on our fireplace broom handles? Can anyone recommend a person who will tie brooms for fire place sets? I've seen a couple of good fireplace tool sets at recent guild meetings so I know that there must be someone who does. I had a recent email from someone in Watkinsville posing that question and it got me to thinking that this would be a common need within our area. Jim 1 comment | read more
By jguy at 08/21/2006 - 7:27pm | Materials | Supplies, suppliers, and for sale or trade Steel for sale or tradeHey All, I have an abundance of steel saw bodies that I would like to sell or trade for tools. Most of the bodys are about 1/8" thick but I have some that are as thick as 3/8". 90% of these have never had carbide tips brazed to them and have never seen a machine. I also have a good deal of 4150 tool steel from woodworking tools that were discarded. These are not small shop peices, these are large chunks of steel that have been discarded from service. login or register to post comments | read more

By Tom K at 07/25/2006 - 6:11pm | Convention | Materials | Metallurgy | Story | Tools Fire ScreenWhat should I use for the screen part of a fire screen? It's not just decorative, it needs to be a spark stopper. Is it just wire mesh, like hardware cloth? Where would I find it? I'm thinking actual mesh for a movable screen, not the hanging style that draws back and forth like curtains. 5 comments | read more
