Propane versus Natural Gas for my forge.

I know that this is probably a question that has come up in the past.

I know most everyone runs Propane for their forge.

Does any one run Natural gas?
What size orifice would be required to push the gas through?

In the Grill and Stove world their are two different sizes, one for LP and one for Nat.

I have a 35 LB requlator, would I need to get different type?

I am preparing to build a burner that use a .035 mig orifice to set up a new forge.

lp vs.ng

Would not need a reg. for ng. Line at meter will be about 5 psi.
larger oriface.

Propane vs Natural Gas

Natural Gas BTU Appx, 1,031 per Cubic Foot.
Propane Gas BTU Appx, 2,516 Per Cubic Foot.
Figure it out.

You need an Fisher adjustible pressure type of regulator. so that you can adjust the pressure.

Be careful you are playing with something dangreous.

Check out the link below for more info on how to build a burner.

lp vs. nat. gas

Natural gas pressure in a residential application is far to low pressure to properly heat a forge unless you guys know of some super burner. LP also burns at a slightly higher temperature. I don't beleive you could ever develop a system on a low pressure residential gas line that would be generate the heat a forge requires in a reasonable length of time.
