Demonstrating

It is fair and craft show season and I am getting requests to demonstrate at these events. The most recent is posted on the Calender; The Vinings Historic Society's Pumpkinfest, another was the Oconee Music Festival. I have no experience doing these events but am interested in doing demos and craft shows if there is a direct benefit (money and/or exposure). The director of the Pumpkinfest tells me that selling items is permitted and the use of a coal forge is OK. They would like the demo to be somewhat representative of the late 1800's or early 1900's. This seems like a natural thing to do for a Smith that is thinking of making this a full time career or for a hobbyist to supplement the tool kitty. I also think that this is an excellent way to represent ABBA to the public and generate more interest in what we do. I want to hear from those of you that have done this before. Tell us what you have learned, what you think, what worked and any mistakes that you can help us avoid. I also want to develop a list of members who are interested in demonstrating and under what terms or restrictions. Go to the Demonstration Forum and post there, or contact me by phone or email. I am also going to bring this up for discussion at the next meeting.
