September Field Trip

I propose we visit Wayne Coe. Perhaps he will be finished enough to host us?

I'd rather visit the Metal Museum in Memphis. I don't know how many other members have gone, but I haven't. Anyone else interested?

September Field Trip

Maybe. I am spending all my time building a house. The shop is built but water and electricity are not hooked up yet. Every thing is just stacked up in there now. I hope to start arranging the shop soon. If I am not ready by September we will plan on it as soon after as possible. There is plenty of camping space and room to do some hiking or even paddling if you are so inclined. The 3 acre pond has been stocked now but the fish are only about an inch long now. No seining. We back up to Big South Fork Wildlife Managment Area and one boundry is the Clear Fork River (a designated Wild and Senic River)with a canoe put in a half mile down the road. I will try to send some pictures later.

Another suggestion--how about a trip to Charleston to see Phillip Simmons' shop? Chaleston has all sorts of beautiful ironwork and I'd like to see one of our foremost smiths while he is still with us (he's in his mid-90's and still working). It's a beautiful city with a lot of great restaurants and some good pubs.

Boy, I'd like to see either of the Metal Museum or Philip Simmons' shop. They will both be educational. But visiting Philip Simmons would be a better move because of his age (93). I read a news article recently that said he was hanging up his hammer, but right now I just cannot find it (and I hope I'm wrong!).

We better hurry up and decide, its almost September. I vote for Charleston, I love the city and there is a lot to do besides the shop tour.

Do we have any plans for the field trip?
