blacksmithing demos

What kind of demo's would the guild like to see:
Simple do-dads that is well with-in the beginner's level,
or more intermediate level that challenges them ,
or more advanced that inspire them?
Can we do one of each (or pick two) during a meeting?
How can we arrange it so we get in the fire after lunch?

re: blacksmithing demos

I like the idea of (time permitting!) both a simple item and an advanced item. It would be great if we could emphasize "clever" as opposed to "easy" on the simple items. Stuff like Tom Clark's tong clip - easy, but useful.

I heard that someone was going to bring the trailer to the February meeting so we'd have the forges set up to hit stuff after the meeting. I hope that materializes!

Question emailed to me:

Mr. Bivens:

I have a 14 old son who is interested in metal work - He is also a boy scout and is looking to earn the metal work badge. We live in Cumming, GA. Do you know of anyone who could instruct him in basic course? Your assistance would greatly appreciated.

Thanks for writing! I am sure I can find you a blacksmith in the area. I will post your request on our website forum, you can go there and see if we get a response. www.alexbealer.org. I will also announce this at our next meeting 3rd saturday in september. Consider this an official invite for you and your son. Instructions and directions on the website. We welcome all visitors!
