Madison Georgia, Southern Regional Blacksmith Conference

The 2007 Conference is almost here. The conference site will be at the Lyons Club Fair Grounds in Madison, Georgia. The site has a large, covered, open-sided barn with bleacher seating for comfortable blacksmithing demonstrations in any weather. The fairgrounds' air-conditioned main building accommodates everyone for registration, meals, the Auction, some Family Programs, and other indoor activities. There will be a caterer for breakfast and lunch both days with a short menu at economical prices. The primitive camping area is near the main building and inside the fence for security. Those of you who have been to this charming town, know the beauty and traditions that are shared there. As in the past, we are steeped in the customs of demonstrating, forging, teaching and sharing.

Demonstrator: to be announced Forge item: a flower, leaf, cattail, etc

Driving Directions:
From 515/575, Jasper area & north. Go south on 515/575 to the Hwy. 108/Waleska Road exit. Go west/south on 108 through Waleska and the 108/140 4-way stop. Go approx. 6 miles. As soon as you cross Moores Mill Bridge, look for the first drive on the right, 3257 Fincher Road. Fincher Road and Hwy. 108 are the same.
From 575. Take Canton exit 16 from 575 to 20/5/140 toward Canton. This will dead-end at the K-Mart. Go left and stay in the right lane past the strip mall when Hwy. splits off to the left. You will be on Hwy. 20 going west. Go approximately 9 miles to Hwy. 108/Fincher Road. Turn right. Go approximately 3.3 miles to 3257 Fincher Road. If you cross Moores Mill Bridge, you went too far. Riverstone Parkway west from 575 will also get you to Hwy. 20 and the rest is the same.
From 75. Go to exit 290, Canton/Cartersville and go east on Hwy. 20 towards Canton. Go approximately 9 miles to Hwy. 108/Fincher Road. Turn left. Go 3.3 miles to 3257 on the left.
The driveway is steep! Go slow. You will also cross a shallow creek up to the house. Don't worry unless there is a heavy rain, then bring a boat!

Meeting at Linda Holmes-Rubin's shop

The demonstrator will be Afred McClure. He will be demonstrating what he learned at the class he took from Mark Aspery. Those of you who have seen Mark demonstrate know he is an excellent teacher, so I am looking forward to an exciting demo from Al with lots to learn.

On another note, my pool is open, so those of you who want to cool off after the meeting are invited to bring a swim suit. I also have two anvils, plenty of coal and a gas forge, so those who are interested in trying out what Al demonstrated are welcome to do so.
